Chapter 7: The Road To The Abandoned Hospital

I hurried back to school with my new weapon. I was feeling a bit lonely after sending Tama, my pet cat, off with my homeroom teacher. However, I started to feel a bit lighter when I thought about how I was going to see Rei.

Apparently, I really liked Rei and can’t get enough of him. Oh, I’m completely drowning in my feelings so much, so I have to try my best to get Rei to confess! As I renewed my determination, I saw Rei standing in front of the school gate.

I ran up to Rei without a second thought.

“I’ve kept you waiting.”

“I didn’t wait that long. Let’s go.”

Then Rei grabs my hand. Whenever we go out together like this, it sometimes begins to feel like a “date” without me even realizing it. I don’t point it out though.

Because I want to hold hands with Rei! What’s more, Rei already took my hand! Perfect!

At this rate, Rei is guaranteed to confess to me again this time! Just as I’m getting excited…

“But why is Kurousagi so strong? Didn’t you set the all-time record last time?”

“I guess I was born with a lot of spiritual power. However, I also think Rei is just as talented.”

“Oh, I see…”

“So, let’s have Rei do his best today! This is also practice. I’ll help you in case of emergency, and I want to try out my new weapon. So don’t worry about being attacked.”

“No! I don’t want to! Last time, my clothes… and Kurousagi was unharmed!”

Rei looked at me with a glare. It seemed he was remembering that time where an attack melted his clothes. At that time, only Rei had his clothes melted, but I was fine.

Thanks to that, I was able to get an eyeful of the scene, but Rei looked at me regretfully. I guess he had been hoping to find my clothes had been melted too, but unfortunately the creature never approached me. Perhaps because it was afraid of me.

I guess it was because I was recalling the memory of that time, but I reached out to Rei’s cheek.

“It’s a joke. I can’t forgive anything that tries to hurt you.”

“I knew it… that leeway is frustrating to me.”

“Is that so? Then you should become stronger. I’ll stay by Rei’s side forever, so I hope you work hard.”

“Forever?”

“Mhmm.”

When I nodded with a loud hum, Rei smiled happily. Rei is too cute. After all, I don’t think I’d ever be able to leave Rei.

I had no intention of leaving, but he’s too cute. While I was writhing emotionally in my heart without my outward expression changing, Rei stopped.

“This is the abandoned hospital where the evil spirit appeared,” Rei said.

As I was listening to him, I realized that we had come to a disastrous looking place. It was a bit strange that it didn’t have a “subjugation quest”.

I had a thought that the “subjugation quest” might be a trick. I supposed it was possible because we had encountered a lot, and it could be used for practice… However, the system is in place so that trainees wouldn’t try to subdue it like this.

I wondered why that would be.

Rei turned to me, “Shall we go?” and headed in.

Chapter 6: My Cat

The road home is lined with the same houses as usual. There is no particular changes in sight. I headed home quickly while thinking about my upcoming date with Rei.

I felt an unusual presence. But it was something I felt earlier, and so I stopped.

“Come on out!”

“Croto, as I expected. Have you noticed?”

A man, who was taller than me and had cat ears, appeared. Since he was not from this world, his clothes were a bit different but…

“Tama of the Four Heavenly Kings. Why are you here?”

“There was a black hole I didn’t recognize, and now I am here.”

“Ah… was it a reaction from my return to this world? Well, I can take you back to yours. It must’ve been hard on you, lost in this world, and while I was on vacation…”

As I said this, Tama became flustered.

“No, no. I’m fine as is.”

“…? Really?”

“Yes…”

After confirming, Tama became a cat again. Tama, my subordinate from another world, could transform into a cat. However, what was noteworthy about this was why Tama returned to being a cat.

In other words…

“Tama, are you here?”

Kazuki, who had appeared, gave me an answer. Without saying anything, I picked up Tama.

“Do you know Tama?”

“Was it a Kurousagi’s cat?”

“…this was my friend’s cat, but for some reason the other day, when it was supposed to be kept at my house, it went missing. We had given up on the idea of finding him, thinking he’d run off to pass away, but I’m glad to see it was actually safe. So my teacher was taking care of you…”

“Yes, I had picked him up when he was injured and treated him, but I see…”

“Yes, look, Tama, I’m going home.”

Then Tama looked at me as if he was confused. I had feeling that my cat needed some re-education from the Demon King.

“But Tama seems to like you, too, so could you keep it for a while?”

“!! Is that all right?”

“Yes, Tama seems to have a crush on you, Teacher. It’s good enough to know he’s alive. –May I come and visit him at your house?”

“…that’s fine, thank you.”

While saying this, Kazuki hugged Tama happily, and Tama seemed to be in a good mood. He’s grinning and wagging his tail. But when I saw it, I felt that my cat was…

I didn’t really miss him that much. Later, when he was re-educating him as the Demon King, he decided to allow Tama to be in that cat state (because in the other world, he had run away). His black fur was very fluffy, soft and comfortable.

Even his paw pads are… I cried quietly in my heart. On the surface, however, I went home as usual, picked up something, and returned to the front of the school where Rei was waiting.

Chapter 5: A New Weapon

Then we ate on the rooftop again. In addition to the dashimaki-tamago, I also included octopus shaped wieners to appease Rei, a hero, since I was trying to get him to try the steamed vegetables I had made. While I was comfortably enjoying my rice, Rei spoke to me in a flustered manner.

“Kurousagi, are you free today?”

“…speaking of free time, I am currently free.”

“Then… there’s a place I’d like to go.”

As expected, he then began to ask me out to play. I had expected him to ask since he was here today, so I guess it was all as I had anticipated. I tried to not show this on my face as I listened to him.

“Actually, there is an abandoned hospital nearby, isn’t there? There seems to be a demon there, and there were so many spirits as well that I almost got hurt when I went there to test my abilities.”

“I don’t know what kind of person would want to go all the way to a dangerous place like that.”

When I said this with a sigh, Rei immediately responded, “That’s true, but I think it’s better to put it down as soon as possible.”

“…so it’s not registered as a ‘quest’?”

“Uh-huh. Otherwise we couldn’t go unless it’s for class.”

While listening to Rei’s response, I hurriedly checked my phone for the time being. His impatience was also cute. …Also, “quests” were usually subjugation tasks of creatures that were considered fictional by most of the world.

There were rewards because it was a job, but there was also a registration system. However, as students, we weren’t able to take any yet, even though we’re gaining the practical skills for it in class. However, they were allowed to defend themselves if they had an “accidental encounter”.

Moreover, Rei was a strong hero in another world, so he easily ran into these sorts of encounters. Basically, he unconsciously gets involved. Because of this, even though I was a Demon King in another world, I had to help out a lot.

It was almost like Rei was useless without me.

“Well, I don’t think it’s registered yet. So how about we go today after school?”

“That’s fine, but can I go home first? I want to try out my latest weapons.”

While listening to his unexpected invitation, I had the urge to test out a new weapon that I had developed recently. As I was thinking about it’s very attractive capabilities, my long time acquaintance, Rei, had turned pale.

“What are you going to do this time?”

Rei spoke as if he were frightened, but this weapon was really nothing special. Thus, there was no need for him to be afraid. However, it may have been because of something that happened before that was making him uneasy.

When that had happened, I had thought that the process had been a little difficult. However, this weapon wasn’t even remotely similar to the one from that time, so there shouldn’t be a problem. So I told him several times that it would be all right. Still, Rei seemed uneasy.

For the time being, I had explained it, so I didn’t speak anymore. After, I returned home with the intention to meet Rei back in front of the school gates later.

Chapter 4: Deredere¹

So I saw Kojiro off, who was taken by the twins, as usual. While praising myself for acting like a proper demon, I had also learned that when Kojiro and the twins were in a bad mood that I shouldn’t get involved. Thus, since I saw him off like this, Rei felt a bit relieved.

“Oh, what was going on, starting from when he suddenly said ‘date’?”

And so on. While listening to him, I said, “Huh? I could have dated Kojiro.”

“What?”

Rei, who seemed impatient, shook me again.

“Is there a problem?”

“That’s…”

Rei was being cagey. By the way, I don’t really want to go out with Kojiro. This was because when we once met each other while shopping, we just ended up complaining and talking about love.

We basically reconfirmed our feelings for other people while we were together. I am confident that it would only go the same way with Kojiro again. However, this time I used it to mess with Rei because he was worried about it.

Even in this world, I want Rei to confess to me. That’s why I have to push him like this, to make him rush. When I thought that I would have to do several more things to get a confession from him, he approached me, grabbed on of my hands, and pushed me against the wall.

Our faces were close enough to be kissing. Is this that thing? The carnal desire that precedes a confession.

Is this the recklessness of youth? Can you take this opportunity to take the initiative, Rei? As I was making my calculations, Rei sighed deeply and moved away.

It seemed that he lost his nerve. I like his brave and gentlemanly nature, but he could be a little more aggressive. This was an evaluation of his aggressiveness.

But once you cross that line, the rest is… hmm.

“I’d like to avoid that.”

Recalling what had happened in another world after I confessed, I thought this beast was…

“I’m sorry. Oh, it’s not that that person and I…”

“I see.”

“……”

Rei looks dejected. He had probably wanted me to rudely turn him down like before. With my spiritual power and intelligence, I can grasp and predict all of Rei’s thoughts.

The person’s name was Mizoguchi Yumiya. He was a cute boy. Although he looked like that, he was an informant, who was a year older than us, and had a boyfriend. He and his boyfriend are so lovey-dovey that they can’t even see anyone else.

Stupid, Rei, I muttered to myself.

Chapter 3: It’s a Punishment

The person who appeared was Yamada Kojiro, my classmate. He appeared to be the charismatic type, and for that reason, he was popular with girls. He was wearing the school uniform, and his hair was wavy.

However, although he entered with the light atmosphere of a playwright, he was also a caring person, perhaps because he was the eldest son with several younger brothers and sisters. He was generally good at cooking, and also good at most housework. And it is precisely because he is such a good caretaker that he is always with……

Then I realized. It was rare for him to be alone. Usually, there were at least two others with him, who –for some reason– would always try to intimidate me.

While think about this, I said, “It’s rare to see you alone, Kojiro.”

Kojiro groaned and shook his head.

“I’m not always with someone.”

“Really? I thought it was a package deal since you were always with someone.”

When he said that, Kojiro appeared to be in an even better mood. Something must have happened. While I stared, Kojiro sighed.

“I’ve been on the run today. It’s been a while since I’ve been alone on campus, and I need some time to relax.”

“…you ran away?”

As I said this, I recalled that Kojiro often looked troubled while he was clung to by one or two people. It seemed that he couldn’t ignore them because he was a good person, but he still seemed to take care of them in his own way.

As I was distracted by my thoughts, Kojiro smiled as if he had come up with a good idea.

“Yes, it was fate that we met here today. So, shall we go on a date, Kurousagi?”

Kojiro also informed me that he was sure the twins would die of indignation if they heard about this. However, I also had some thoughts in regards to Rei, who was beside me.

“…all right.”

“Oh, is that all right?”

Rei looked at me as if my answer shocked him instead of blaming me for betraying him. Right, I wanted to see this face.

He’s going to go crazy with jealousy and “fall into darkness”! While I was having “Demon King” like thoughts, I looked over at Kojiro without altering my expression.

“But there are conditions.”

“Huh? What kind?”

Kojiro, who had had a subtle expression when he asked to go on a date with me, asked in confusion. I had been wondering if he hadn’t noticed yet.

“If I can run away from the twins behind you, I’ll go on that date.”

As I said this, Kojiro’s hands were caught and hugged from behind.

“That’s terrible, Kojiro, how could you leave me?”

“Yes, you must be punished.”

Kojiro’s arms were captured as the twin’s angry voices spoke.

Then Kojiro, who had visibly paled said, “What? Wait, how did you find out that I was here… Oh, my God!”

With a scream, I watched as Kojiro was taken away by the twins.

Chapter 2: Playing a Trick

I’m going to talk about this world and the other world here. About ten years ago, an event called the “fantasy break” occurred in this place that we usually call “Earth”. During that period, creatures that previously only existed in myths appeared.

It seems that from then on, the fantasy world of some other world and part of this world were fused together. As a result, all kinds of monsters like yokai, fairies, and ghosts appeared. In Japan, there are also people who gained the ability to fight with “spiritual power”.

They were originally called Onmyoji¹, but these days, they are mostly called something else. This is especially noticeable in schools, although they foster talents to succeed the original Onmyoji. The schools that especially want to attract students even change the names of their classes.

In other words, those with a light attribute are part of the “Hero’s Department” and those with dark attributes are part of the “Demon King’s Department”. The names were changed in hopes of attracting a little bit of interest, since it is a field that depends a lot on talent. By the way, I belong to the Demon King’s Department 1-A, and Rei belongs to the Hero’s Department 1-C.

The classes were not divided by ability, so I happened to be in the class next to Rei’s. That’s part of the reason why Rei is able to come to my class comfortably. Besides, Rei is now very pleased, even though he was in despair when he first found out we were in different classes.

So, that’s the story of this world. However, I have another secret. My body has “dark spiritual power” that is normally not conceivable, even though it is “sealed”.

Yes, my “true power” is different. By the way, Rei also has “light spiritual power” that is sealed away because he currently cannot handle it. However, it was called “magic power” rather than “spiritual power” in the other world.

The walls of the world were originally thin due to the influence of its connection to the other world, and because of my enormous power, I became the Demon King in the other world while I slept in this one. It seemed to be the same for Rei, and he was a hero in that world.

While I still have my memories of the other world when I wake up here because of my enormous power, because Rei has not awakened all of his yet; he does not remember anything in this one.

That was unforgivable to me.

In that world, I am a good Demon King. However, there was still the “farce” of the hero coming to defeat the Demon King. There, there is a rule that the one who won would be given one favor from the loser.

That’s fine.

However, when I first me Rei in the other world, he “confessed”. He said that he had always been in love with me.

However, when he returned to this world, he forgot everything. Yes, everything.

Frankly speaking, I was very happy to be confessed to. Because I like Rei too. However, Rei has no recollection of his confession, even though I have already accepted it.

I didn’t like this.

That’s why I’ve decided to take advantage of the fact that he doesn’t remember confessing as an excuse to tease Rei while knowing he is in love with me. In this world, I often laugh at Rei’s face that is red with complaints while he asks why I was acting so mean.

Then, when he got angry and challenged me to a fight, I knock him down, hug him, and seduce him until he’s “half-dead” just to tease him some more.

I have enjoyed his impressive patience, but the other day I was finally defeated and embraces… he was very persistent at the time. I told him not to do it anymore, but he wouldn’t listen. He had seduced me so many times, that I was certain that this was earned.

“That’s why I’ve made up my mind, and I’m going to ‘tease’ you a lot here.”

“Kurousagi, what’s wrong?”

“I’m scheming. After all, I’m the Demon King.”

“It’s the job of the hero to thwart the Demon King’s plans.”

“Then we’ll have to honor your courage. Do you want a Dashiyaki Tamago²?

Chapter 1: At The End of Class Today

The exhilaration of classes being over is the best. As I, Ishigaki Kurousagi, thought. I have dark, black hair and pale, blue eyes, and I’m wearing glasses.

These glasses are, by the way, date glasses. It’s convenient for me, and I use them to disguise myself. People think I’m a cool guy, but it’s not because I’m trying to dress up, it’s just because I don’t talk much and keep quiet.

I wait here as usual, listening to the sound of students leaving their seats one after another. Because he is coming. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m exhausted from class or because I’m waiting for him, but I stretch in my seat.

It’s only natural that I’m tired, after all I was paying attention and trying to learn the material, and I’m not asleep even though it’s a peaceful time in the classroom. As I stretched in my seat, someone came over. He was a refreshingly, handsome man with red hair and golden eyes.

He had come quickly from the class next door, looking happy to see me.

“Kurousagi, where are you having lunch today?”

When I saw his face, I was trapped in a feeling I didn’t recognize it.

“…there’s no lunch to eat with you.”

“Ok!”

“…as usual… the weather is nice today, so let’s eat on the roof. Why did you come here so quickly? Our classrooms are right next to each other.”

“I missed you, Kurousagi. But, uh, yeah. The rooftop sounds nice.”

He laughed happily then. This person is Minazuki Rei, my childhood friend. Also, an old enemy from another world?

I’ll explain more about that later, but my childhood friend has been my best friend from kindergarten to my freshman year of high school, and we’ve been rotten friends¹ since then. And I know this best friend of mine wants to upgrade this friendship even further. But, due to some circumstances… I’ve decided to leave him hanging for a little longer.

After all, I wouldn’t be able to refuse him afterwards, and I muttered to myself, “I have to train myself before then. He has too much stamina. If I don’t, my body won’t last.”

“Did you say something, Kurousagi?”

“You’re imagining things.”

“I’m curious though.”

“Don’t think about it.”

While we were talking, the homeroom teacher, Tanaka Kuzuki, seems to have heard the exchange.

“You two are close as always.”

So has been said. He is a reasonably tall and attractive teacher that I’ve heard is popular with both students and other teachers. There is probably a student in one of his classes that is secretly fond of him.

However, he wasn’t on my radar at all, since I already had someone I loved. So, as usual, I answered without prejudice.

“It’s a rotten relationship.”

“Don’t say that.”

Despite hearing Rei’s pathetic voice, I ignored him and instead asked the teacher about something I had happened to see.

“Putting that aside… is that cat food?”

So I asked him about the tins of cat food that I happened to see in his bag.

The teacher laughed in annoyance and said, “Oh, I’ve been discovered. Keep this to yourself. I’ve recently picked up a cat … and it seems to be weak, so I’ve been taking care of it at home. Even though it’s a stray cat, I’d rather be on my own.”

“…I can smell the magic.”²

“Huh?”

“Oh, nothing. I’m about to collapse from hunger.”

“Oh, sorry for keeping you.”

As I watched my homeroom teacher walk away, I thought about the trace of magic I detected earlier. It wasn’t something from “this world”, but it was something that I remembered.

“…cat?”

“What’s wrong with cats? I thought you liked them, since you’re so similar to them.”

“In what way am I a cat?”

“In a whimsical way? Or in a cute way?”

“Okay, I’m not eating with you today. It’s nice to be alone. I’ll get away from the hustle and bustle of people.”

“Huh? Why are you mad? Wait, no! Let’s eat together!”

“Why don’t you ask someone else?”

“Never.”

Rei groaned when I said something mean. While watching his reaction, I felt like this was enough to get him to dial back. Don’t call me cute here all of a sudden, I was about to confess to you! I thought, not even showing it on my face, but inwardly I was impatient.

It was probably better to go eat soon.

“I’m going to the rooftop.”

“Ok!” Rei replied happily.

TL Note: This is a pretty short and cute story I decided to translate on the side for you guys. There’s no schedule for it, since I’m prioritizing releases of TPIMAWW. It’s got only 11 chapters though!

Also, the title is a mouthful, wowie. The acronym honestly just looks like nonsense Also, just so ya’ll know, the smut’s not until the last chapter.
